First Blog Post

Hi! My name is Kayla Gelinas and I am a junior at Georgia Southern University. I have just entered the Early Childhood Education program and am thrilled by the prospects of becoming a teacher. I look forward to graduating and seeing where life will take me. During my Pre Professional Block (PPB), I worked in Metter, Georgia. I was in a first grade class, and although I thought that I wanted to teach the older grades, the first graders stole my heart. Now, I want to teach the younger students. I am very excited about becoming a teacher.

  1. I was also placed in a 1st grade classroom for PPB. Although I love young children, my experience during PPB made me realize that I would rather teach older children. I am currently in a 3rd grade classroom at Stilson Elementary School and I LOVE it! Who knows where I will end up though. Where are you observing this semester?

  2. I have worked mainly with kindergarteners. I always knew that I wanted to work with the lower grades. The younger children steal my heart! :) I have been placed in a higher grade once and it is very different from the lower grades. I hope your semester goes great!

  3. I can completely relate to that. Younger kids can be difficult, but they have a way of getting to you. First grade is an excellent grade. I love working with younger children. They are innocent, but they can learn so much. I hope you continue to work with the younger children!

  4. The students in the younger grades are so much fun to work with. It may be tough because you're teaching the basics to everything, but in the end it is well worth it. I go back and forth on whether I want to stick with teaching lower grades or not.
